December 13, 1916 - November 1, 2021
Lucy Swan 104 Years Old Heaven added another angel, as Lucy Swan closed her eyes and went to the Lord on November 1, 2021. She rejoices with her late husband Matthew; her sisters Lily Dunham and Mary Skelaney; her brothers Nick, Paul, Dominick, Anthony, George, John and Thomas of the Dioguardio Family; along with her grandchildren Craig Newham, Mary Kate Swan, as well as many other relatives and dear friends. Lucy contributed her healthy lifestyle to having a joy of laughter. She would light up a room with her presence and everyone gravitated to her. When asked her age, she would simply respond and acquaintances would say “God Bless You”. Blessed she was, with a love for life, that graced the earth for almost 105 years, 43 days shy of her birthday on Saint Lucy’s Day – December 13th. She was born in 1916, at her parent’s home on West Avenue in Patchogue, New York. Her bassinet was the top drawer of her mother’s dresser. To our knowledge, she was the last surviving Patchogue Medford High School graduate from the class of 1934, skipping past her class of 1933, by excelling up one grade level. She was one smart, athletic, petite, strong-minded, Italian cookie. Never requiring any prescribed medication throughout her entire life, unless she broke a bone or two, in which she did. In 1959, Lucy began working for the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, known today as Long Island Community Hospital. She worked there for 21 years as an admissions clerk. Before that, she worked at the Patchogue Lace Mill during the depression years. She would always recall how persistently she waited in long lines for hours, sometimes even days to get a job. One day, she was recognized for her strong will and determination and hired to fold curtains for $8.00 a week. About 2 weeks later, she was promoted to work in the office, where she scheduled and shipped orders. She worked at this position for seven years, at $15.00 weekly. Lucy was quite a legend as well as an open Patchogue history book. Three years ago in 2019, she moved to Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina under the constant care of her daughter, Lorraine and Lorraine’s husband, Floyd Siar. She was embraced and blessed by hundreds of new neighbors, but her heart always remained in her beloved Village of Patchogue. May her soul and the souls of all that faithfully departed before her, through the mercy of God, rest in peace, as she lovingly watches over her; 5 – Children; Marylou Swan DiClemente (Lee), Nancy Swan Dias (Al), Matthew (Skip) Swan, Robert Swan (Christine) and Lorraine Swan Siar (Floyd). 12 - Grandchildren; Lynn DiClemente Brown (Gary), Guy DiClemente (Joann), Lisa DiClemente Berkery (Joe), Craig Newham, Matthew Swan (Shannon), Thomas Swan (Sandra), Cindy Swan, Mary Kate Swan, Eric Swan, John Maggiacomo (Lauren), Matthew Maggiacomo (Danielle) and Jillian Maggiacomo Carnes (Stephen). 19 - Great Grandchildren; Kristin Brown Thobaben (Peter), Erica Brown, Nicole Brown, Jennifer Harris (Alex), Matthew DiClemente (Casey), Connor, Grace and William Berkery, Kennedy Comfort, Brooke and McKenna Yander, Sara, Nate and Jefferson Swan, Candice Ross and Nicolas, Victoria, Luca and Mia Maggiacomo. 2 - Great Great Grandchildren, Orion Brown Thobaben and Amelia DiClemente. May the sun always shine Lucy’s spirit down upon you, always. The Swan Family
