February 8, 1954 - September 8, 2020
Marilyn Lydia McCutcheon, 66, of Brookhaven Hamlet, passed away September 8, 2020, with her loving family by her side. Born to the beloved late Joseph and Florence Neitzel, February 8, 1954 in Port Jefferson, New York. Wife to David Anderson McCutcheon III, mother to Matthew, Justin, Kristy and Amanda, sister to Warren, Eric, Delia, Sarah and Bonnie, aunt to Varin, Siobhan, Joseph, Christopher, Maggie, Sarah, Romeo, Kit, Kim and Laura and to the many other family and friends. Marilyn was so proud of her family, her children, her nephews and nieces – whom she boasted about the most. She enjoyed her life and family to the fullest, whether spending time together on the beaches in Southold or the shores of Fire Island to her travels with her dear friends throughout Europe the United States and most recently with family to California for Varin and Maggie’s wedding, a family event that she cherished and a union that led to the birth of her great niece Lucy, whose many photos and videos comforted her when she needed it most. Lastly to her trip to Alaska with Dave, a long-held dream that created beautiful and lasting memories that sustain them both for their time alone and for that spent with their “wild” relatives of Alaska. This would come to be Marilyn’s last great adventure, but one of if not her fondest. Marilyn was an incredibly intelligent and successful person but would not want to be recognized for her many accomplishments rather to be remembered for her love and the family she glued together. She would never admit it but she was also the most determined person you have ever met (just ask her brothers Warren and Eric – whom no siblings had a closer bond). Her family fondly joked with her that she had a master’s degree in life – “the knower of all things”. But most importantly she was and will remain forever in our hearts and memories our guiding light. If she were her with us, she would ask her family to remember all the great times we had. Especially the little shanty beach house in Southold where she invited and welcomed all to come and be part of her family, the little house that she always made room for people to stay. She would thank all of those that became part of her family and created such beautiful memories… We wish we had more time, but we remember all the great moments we shared and are comforted knowing she is with her father Joseph, mother Florence, Grandmother Amelia and mother-in laws Barbara and Faith – to whom she cherished. “May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may god hold you in the palm of his hand.” Viewing ceremonies will be held on Wednesday September 9th from 5 - 9 p.m. and Thursday September 10th 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Robertaccio Funeral Home. Church services to take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Saints Philips and James Roman Catholic Church. The family requests that any donations be made in support of breast cancer research, in lieu of sending flowers.
